About
December 20th, 2006I work in the field of English as a foreign language, and hold a degree in Intructional Technology and Media. This site started back in 2001 at Teachers College/Columbia University in New York City. It later became a digital record of part of my work as a graduate student and as a professional in the field of technology, teaching and learning. Today this site is open for visitors to share and discuss ideas on education, efl, esl, and technology.
Back in 2002 I wrote the following. I’ve decided to keep this post since things have changed personally and in the world since then, but to a great extent my predicament stays the same:
“Two world events have made a great impact in my life over time, personally and professionally: Chile’s military coup 9/11/1973 and then the attack and collapse of New York’s WTC 9/11/2001. This website started soon after the latter event at a close distance from what was called “ground zero.” The site has evolved through time and space, first in Jersey City, then Queens, Manhattan, Yonkers, and Santiago de Chile, where I currently live.
As a child I was raised under a dictatorial regime. Now, as an adult I’ve found opportunities to struggle for equality and progress in a democratic structure that -again and in many ways- keeps oppressing so many with new and old paradigms of social, political and economic power.
The commitment I have with myself: To make quality instruction available and accessible to all sectors private and public, children and adults as a means to empower individuals in the process of adapting, transforming and generating technology and multiple solutions for the economic growth of our communities. As an EFL teacher I also believe learning a foreign language can be an essential part of this process. “
