Eleven

11 has been a number in my personal life… and in the life of so many people.

They say “sometimes you win, sometimes you lose”. I wonder if by losing, we sometimes gain something else. Detachment from things and from people can be a painful process at first; however, detachment can be the greatest gift in our spirit and in that of those who have departed.  Losing a loved one is an extremely painful experience, since we feel that part of us is also gone when they’re gone. Yet, in God’s presence, as we conceive of Him/Her, that loss can open wonderful opportunities to (re) connect with ourselves and connect with that special someone in a way we probably could have never never done in this dimension of Life on Earth.  Detachment, I think,  connects with a sense of no-ego, of selflessness, generosity and Love. Letting go is often times the biggest action of love and the best gift we can give to those who have passed away and to oneself.

Sept 11, 1973

Santiago, Chile.

A right-wing military  coup destroyed the democratic and civil life balance  by literally attacking what people had chosen to be their government back then here in Chile.  Bloodshed, manslaughter, kidnapping, torture, bodies in the sea, exiles and so many atrocities happened… I was 5 years old then.. .but I remember the tear gas in our kindergarten classroom …. right across the street from the Socialist party office… some of my classmates were vomiting,  others nose bleeding… I remember that  so very well.

Years later, on 11th grade – while Pinochet was still in power,  I became an activist, protesting in the streets. I got anonymous phone calls with threats that my group and I should stop.  But we did not.  I remember my best friend and I throwing leaflets with instructions all over the city.

My parents were in rage when they found out, since they supported the dictatorship at the time.

The Valech committee was set up later in the early days of our democracy (1990) and this, along with other initiatives, revealed what for some was a whole bunch of lies.  Truth has somehow prevailed. Acknowledgment and justice is still work in progress in Chile but we’re getting there.

The navy, the air force, and the military released a document in the mid 90s admitting the (horrible) crimes they  had  committed, including those of throwing live and dead  bodies in the deep ocean. Many of the crimes perpetrated under Pinochet’s regime are still unsolved. I can only sympathize with the families who lost a loved one under those circumstances. All I can say is that through my work I try to encourage a broader vision of our own events, I try hard to raise awareness on the respect of ideas, beliefs and lifestyle of every single individual.  I do not do politics in my classroom. That what politicians are for… not me. However,  I do not turn a blind eye on local issues that need discussion and above all, reflection.

Keeping our historical memory is part of how we build our future as a country, I believe. I’m sure that if younger generations can “connect the dots”,  we will have a great future as a nation.

PS: I’m amazed at how Wikipedia has changed its original information about Chile’s coup in 1973.  Feel free to check but if you’re knowledgeable about the event, saying that the event was basically “bloodless” is simply non-sense or an outrage lie.

Sept 11, 2001

New York City, USA

It was my third week in New York and I had just started my courses at Teachers College, Columbia U.

On Monday 10th, 8.30 am I was at the World Trade Center. That was my usual commute, NJ Path Train to WTC and then  I would take the 9 or 1 train… to then hop on the express then back to the 1 or 9 local train to 116th street. That Monday morning I got a few gifties from Body and Works .. … I think it was the name and snail-mailed them back home in Chile. I also wrote a letter to a loved one… saying how peaceful it was to be there… in the middle of the hectic WTC concourse I could breathe PEACE.

Next day two jet liners struck towers 1 and 2.  Later, “explosions” made the surrounding buildings collapse.

WTC had become all rubble and debris.

3,000 people were “missing” Their families posted signs on every single station , hoping to find them somewhere alive.

That never happened. My own political interpretations are best kept to myself on this subject, but I do share the pain with the Americans and other citizens who were affected by this action.

Santiago, Chile

My sister had fought lung cancer for almost 2 years. Monday, May 11th 2009 she passed away. I know she wanted to live and take care of her two kids. She fought hard for that to happen. But somehow, God and Life had a different plan for her and for us.

Patita hermosa, I know you are with us in the Spirit as much as we are with you. You have made it clear in so many ways.  I love you.  So do your kids, family and friends.

Spiritual Meaning of Number Eleven

I’ve wondering for the past months what it is about number 11. I such an ignorant in matters of numerology, but well, after some research this is what I’ve been able to put together. Still finding my own meanings.  ( many sources pulled in for the text below; it all needs verification )

The spiritual meaning of number eleven is quite diverse. The number 11 is thought of as a “master” number in numerology because it is a double-digit of the same number. When this occurs – the vibrational frequency of the prime number doubles in power. Meaning, the attributes of the Number One are doubled.

Therefore, the very basic and primary understanding of the Number One is that of new beginnings and purity. When we see this digit doubled as with the 11 – then these attributes double in strength.

In numerology the number 11 represents:

* Higher ideals
* Invention
* Refinement
* Congruence
* Balance
* Fulfillment
* Vision

The 11 carries a vibrational frequency of balance. It represents male and female equality. It contains both sun energy and moon energy simultaneously yet holding them both in perspective separate-ness. Perfect balance.

Consequently, constant reoccurances of number 11 in our lives often signal us to be aware of our balance:

* Balance emotion, thought and spirit
* Balance of masculine and feminine aspects
* Balance of work and play

Elevens are magical messages asking us if we are centered or off kilter.

When we add 1+1 (eleven reduced) we get number two – which is also a balance number – Numeral two also deals with:

* Equality
* Justice
* Calm
* Kindness
* Tact
* Duality

Those who recognize the spiritual meaning of number Eleven in their lives are quite sensitive to vibrational frequencies matching these attributes above listed. Elevens appearing on a consistent basis is indicative of a reflective, thoughtful and intuitive soul.

I get loads of emails, and it seems to me, number Eleven presents itself to people who seem to be very psychically connected. I believe each time then number 11 if observed it is the Universe sending a message of:

* Confirmation to keep up integrity
* Enter into an open space of conscious awareness
* Realign, reaffirm, re-establish (re-balance) ourselves

As we deal with energy in our lives it is integral to understand we are at once a part of it, and yet the option to separate from energetic forces is present. The spiritual meaning of number Eleven deals directly with our involvement with the progression of life. When it appears, it references both our ability to be objective and subjected to life events – it is how we enter through the doorway of choice that determines the purity of the outcome.
