Exploring Better Teaching & Learning Experiences in Education

Dear visitors, thanks for stopping by. I am an educator, just like many of you. I started out this site back in 2001 at Columbia University as part of a course requirement. Little did I know back the days what "having a site " really meant. Today I communicate a lot more through twitter and also through this site (thanks for your messages!) I try to reply as promptly as possible. I gave up facebook some time ago. Then Google + came out and I accepted a friend's invite. However, I'm not really active right now in social networks, except for twitter. You can add me there.

I truly hope to establish meaningful conversations through this site & twitter. Education is a wonderful life-transfoming task, so here's me tipping my hat for every single soon-to-be or current educator, trying hard to make a difference in the classroom.

I believe in those good conversations with colleagues, admins, our big boss, and also those great peer observation moments. All of these are great learning opportunities for us, educators. So are personal journals, since reflection on our practices is key for our life-long learning as professionals.

For Teachers in Chile, I kindly invite you to visit and register at TESOLChile, a leading organization promoting EFL Teachers' development. For students, if you are pursuing a degree in TEFL, try, practice & study hard. Having a study group is really important, so set one up if you don't have it yet. For professionals pursuing a degree overseas and wishing to train for TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT or GRE, there is one place: Nova Language Consultants. Give them a call. Finally, if you're here because you're curious, it's great to be so! Intellectual curiousity keeps us fresh and active participants in our communities.

Again: Welcome here and send me your info if you want your site / blog to be posted for other visitors.

Best,

Mauricio Miraglia.

Transformative Learning

Transformational theory in the context of adult learning has been articulated mainly by Jack Mezirow, and connects with the idea of a change, "a dramatic fundamental change in the way we see ourselves and the world in which we live" (Merriam & Caffarella) primarily from a cognitive learning process. This website shows the work of our team pulling together to make sense of our own dilemmas.
